Ok, good to know that someone wants it that way. :)
SInce ther are many people working on a default theme already, lets
assemble all those who are interested in designing an alternative dark
theme.
Maybe opensuse theme will consider adding it as an alternative in the
KDE theme list.
I have seen a number of dark themes for SUSE KDE4 already, the ones i
listed previously are:
1. Something similar to the default KDE non-suse theme
(http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/6936/kde41beta2opensusezr2.jpg)
Work can be done on the panels, on the menu (make it look somewhat
darkish maybe). Transparency is something to consider. Also, dark page
titles would have to be designed.
2. Unused SUSE 11 theme for KDE
(http://en.opensuse.org/Artwork:Pixel_Pool/11.0/Dark_Gloss)
It's a suse oxygen modification. I don't know how far the author got
in his development process. Maybe he will let us use what he already
has to complete it into a fully functional theme.
Anyway, once we decide what "template" we wanna use, we can start
working on the theme. Unless someone wants to develop it from scratch
of course.

I think that kde 4.1 definitively has the potential to make suse just look amazing, so let's keep those design proposals coming.
Meanwhile, here is a little something for you. Two ideas on a spash. This is a work in progress, so please send some feedback.

Your idea looks good, but of course I have a couple of suggestions. The background picture for the splash screen looks nice, but it looks there is too much "noise", maybe you have the original one in perfect quality. And regarding the lizard - looks good, nice work with the pen tool :), I would add some blending to the lizard specifically, so it integrates in the picture better. Anyway, that's some constructive criticism from me.
Also, a question for everyone, is it possible to have a couple of themes included in the new release? For example, we can have one of the brighter themes we develop as a default one for suse, and then maybe include some good alternatives in the KDE theme list.

yeah i wuld like that alot, for those who like dark themes and those who like light, etc etc -- Michael Fox
