Hi Mark, I just installed 9.2 on a dual 246 Tyan S2875 with 4-GB of ram without any problems. Even the SATA disks worked. Is your BIOS up-to-date? I had a TYAN S2882 crash regularly whenever a certain benchmark was run. The crashing was fixed with a BIOS update. Regards, Lew Wolfgang sean-lynch@sean-lynch.com wrote:
Mark,
You say 9.0 and 9.1 install fine, so...
Could you install 9.1 (even just text based), then boot 9.1 fire up yast at the command prompt as root and try to upgrade from the 9.2 dvd? You'd be running the dvd upgrade scripts from a working 9.1 kernel.
Sounds like the boot kernel on the 9.2 dvd is not handling something in your setup (8Gb or dual opteron).
Just a suggestion...

Just received Suse 9.2 and I'm getting a kernel panic when I try to install it on my Opteron system. It happens right away, after selecting "Installation". Although I don't see the kernel panic unless I select text install. If I don't select text install the screen just goes blank. I've tried tons of different kernel params, such as turning off ACPI, APM, etc...
I'm using a Tyan S2885 with 8GB ram and 2 x opteron 248 processors. I can install 9.1 and 9.0 fine so I'm not sure what's wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to trouble shoot or solve this problem?
