I've had a similar issue under SLES8 SP3 where the X server will basically run away. It will use 100% of one of the CPUs with no response on the console. If I ssh in to the box and kill the X server the console will come back. My system is under very light load. It is a dual opteron with 4GB of memory. -Alain. -----Original Message----- From: Brad Bourn [mailto:brad@summitrd.com] Sent: Wednesday, November 24, 2004 7:57 AM To: suse-amd64@suse.com Subject: Re: [suse-amd64] System locking up.... I've noticed a few times where my X server would lock up, but I was able to ssh in. It seems to happen under heavy system load and if I leave it alone, it ends up comming back and a message is displayed from the arts deamon something about system too busy or something like that. So now, if it happens I kill the artsd to get my X back. B-) On Tuesday 23 November 2004 05:08 pm, Tom Nielsen wrote:
I've been running into a problem where my system locks up or freezes. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with SuSE. This can happen daily, weekly and mostly, randomly. I have not figured out any common denominator for why this is happening. I can be typing along and bam! everything locks up and I have to power off then back on. I've tried ssh'ing into my machine from another computer and can't get in....host not responding.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any thoughts where to start? I don't see anything in the log files.
I'm running a Sun W1100z on SuSE 9.1-64.
