Unable to make a vmmon module that can be loaded in the running kernel: insmod: error inserting '/tmp/vmware-config5/vmmon.o': -1 Invalid module format There is probably a slight difference in the kernel configuration between the set of C header files you specified and your running kernel. You may want to rebuild a kernel based on that directory, or specify another directory.
Ray, 'why' it happened is for someone more knowledgeable than I, but I found this information on the web, and it worked for me. 1. cd to /usr/src/linux-[current version] 2. type make cloneconfig 3. type make prepare 4. run latest vmware-any-any update
You can find that vmware update script here: http://platan.vc.cvut.cz/ftp/pub/vmware/
it's down near the bottom of the page.
