Hello everyone: I'm using SuSE 9.1 64-bit mode on an AMD Athlon 64 on an Asus K8V motherboard. Recently I ran Memtest86 only to discover a number of errors (more than 119,000 after 7 hours). I took the machine back to the store and they installed a newer BIOS. This changes seems to have cleared up a lot of problems. Running Memtest86 again resulted in ZERO ERRORS after more than four hours. In reviewing the BIOS, I found that the parallel port address was DISABLED After I ENABLED it, the setting were the same as under the old BIOS: address 378 mode NORMAL IRQ IRQ7 Under the old BIOS, my printer, using CUPS, worked OK under both WordPerfect and OpenOffice. Now, however, I can't seem to configure the printer. When I attempt to install either CUPS or LPRng, I get a message: no parallel device (/dev/lp?) found. It seems that your parallel port is not properly configured. In checking the SuSE 9.1 Administration Guide, it shows that both printing programs [ CUPS and LPRng ] require footmatic-filters however, a search under YAST for this package results in NO RESULTS Could this be causing the failure to properly configure the printer? Don't forget, the printer worked fine under CUPS before the BIOS update and also works properly on my other machine meaning that the printer and cable are both OK. HELP!!!! Mike
