I wonder if you are saving much, compared to having someone like www.monarchcomputers.com build it, burn it in and ship it to you. We had plenty of difficulty getting the Tyan dual MB with the Adaptec 2120S to work with SuSE SLES 8 for AMD64. We ended up having to scrap the 2120S and go with a separate Intel RAID controller - SRCU42L. Maybe Tyan has fixed that by now - but it was four weeks of hell back in December. I build lots of PC and smaller servers, but am very glad I had our dual Opteron built by someone that does it every day. Its got 2x242's and the same Fujitsu drives. It screams. Otherwise your components look fine. But the details of integrating them all could take quite a while - I know :). Also, why would you not do a rack enclosure such as the Chenbro RM214U? It comes with 6 hotswap SCSI bays and the dual redundant power supplies. Good luck. - Richard -----Original Message----- From: Fibersnet [mailto:mailinglist@fibersnet.net] Sent: Saturday, April 03, 2004 10:10 PM To: suse-amd64@suse.com Subject: [suse-amd64] Dual Opteron Server Help This server will funtion as a database server will that will store and select many chunks of small data at very high speeds. The hard drives will be in a raid 5 configuration with both the OS and the database being on the array. The OS will not be used too much but it will be on a redundant array along with the database. The server needs to have hot swappable drives so I am going to buy the SCSI chasis with SAF-TE The Adaptec controller also has support for SAF-TE The PSU is a redundant one because shutting down/rebooting this machine will be avoided at all costs. It is a mission critical server. The OS will be SUSE 64-bit running mysql 64bit binaries. I would be very gratful if you guys please review over the components and give me the OK to buy? I will make sure to get good PC 3200 ECC REGISTERED RAM but if you guys have any good links, please link me I plan to use Suse 9 64 bit. The server will run mysql only. How is the installation for Suse 9 with a Megaraid 320-1? Thank you!
