Bryen,
Thanks you so much for that very detailed and clear reply. So, according to Andi, it looks like we wont have any shirts for SCALE this year. I spoke with Stephen Shaw yesterday and he said he will talk to someone at SUSE for me and see what they can get together in the way of swag. I have not spoken with him yet this morning but I am sure he and I will talk later and I will update on the mailing list.
Alan is now on this list and he's usually the go-between guy for us. Let's let him report back what can be given to you guys and I believe Alan is planning to go as well.
As far as the backdrop goes... I didn't even think about that! I will try to find out more about the status on that from Alan. I guess if we have to do without it it's not really much of an issue, however I do think it would be a nice touch to have it.
The backdrop is only available in the US and usually only available if an employee is also attending the event, due to the expensive cost of the panels. It's guarded pretty zealously, until Alexia has confidence that the product will be well cared for. So, we don't advertise it all that much, but try to include it wherever possible. The backdrop should definitely be included in SCaLE. Traditionally, openSUSE is given prime real estate on the exhibit floor with a nice corner slot. Take a look at the placement of other distros and you'll see we have a nice positioning. As such, the corner space should look professional rather than just a few posters stuck on the curtain. In any case, an effort is underway to get you that backdrop. :-) While we're at it, I should mention that some of us have been pushing to update the panels on the backdrop since its pretty outdated now. But we haven't seen a pickup from anyone with artwork expertise to design the four new panels (which can actually be vinyl banners much cheaper). If you guys could take a moment to study it while you're there and come back with recommended ideas for new panels, that would be AWESOME.
It's funny how you mentioned the "Travel Electrical Outlets" and how there was a bunch left over after the event last year. I took most of those home with me and I have given quite a few out at school and other Linux or tech events I have gone to (mostly LUG's and such). I still have some I could bring with me back to SCALE this year, however, they say Novell on them... that might confuse some people but I am more than willing to bring them. What do you think?
So the mystery of the missing box is now solved. :-) After the show, someone on the team claimed the box to take back home but then I found out weeks later the box went missing before that person could take them. I just figured wherever it ended up it is put to good use, and obviously you've done that. :-) Now for the other mystery, who the heck left their size 8 shoes in our hotel room. No one has claimed them. LOL
Above ALL, I want to make sure we can get plenty of promo DVD's to give out. I am VERY proud of 12.1 and am looking forward to sharing it with interested people at the event. I know I am not the only one who feels that way and, it seems like we are going to have a great group of people at SCALE this year... I have a feeling that last years investment into SCALE will continue to pay off.
I don't think that will be a problem. As I understand it, the shipment of DVDs arrived in Provo recently so its ready for distribution to all points around. Again, I'm wishing you all the best of success this year and looking forward to hearing more about it when it is done. You guys are a great bunch of folks and openSUSE is sure to be well-represented! Thanks again for the info about the swag from last year.
