You did not read the complete email, which is complicated to understand: «My "external" zone NIC has been assigned 5 different public IP4 addresses, all statically assigned by using the YaST2->Network Card Setup to assign one of these public IP4 addresses to the NIC card itself, and the other 4 public IP4 addresses are assigned to this same "external" NIC card as additional addresses for that "external" NIC card.» «My network is split into 2 halves, 192.168.10.0/25 is my "internal" zone, and 192.168.10.128/25 is my "dmz" zone. Except for "quasar" each computer has 2 NIC's, one for each of my zones. Ok, it meant this: 1 2 router-----sw1------sw2-----telcontar \ \-----isengard \Legolas ("computer room" is SW2) All machines connected to SW2 lost connectivity to internet when the old router was replaced by "Telefónica technician #1". Also machines connected to sw1 lost connectivity to internet. Machines connected directly to the router worked. But any machine connected to SW1 could connect fine to any machine connected to SW2. Then the "Telefónica technician #2" came, and after 2 hours of testing, I could convince him to replace the router. Instantly connectivity was back, albeit with loses, varying from 5 to 30%. And no, I am not really interested in it, it is just an extra step and extra noise. What I expect from you, is a clear explanation which devices have problems and how they are interconnected. The diagram was enough for this purpose. Adding "my computer room lost access" added nothing to it, but if you felt important to mention it I assume it provided some additional information. But it failed to convey this information in the form others can understand.

I was quite surprised to see the rapid pilfering of memory from all other processes when a cache gobbling rsync kicked in - no wonder performance under swap is bad, it's like a disease thatrapidly propagates to everything. Recently I've noticed both chrome and opera have a tendency to sometimes go wild, either burning CPU, or repeatedly dumping core in the background. Back in the nineties people started saying that Linux was going to one day make big inroads on the desktop. But even today, neither the desktop nor the operating system really embrace each other well. The OS is pretty unaware of what is important to the desktop and vice-versa. It's easy for a badly behaved job to destroy interactivity - by grabbing RAM - to the point where the user has no chance to intervene. I like pretty lights, each to their own. I've created several visual tools for managers. That way managers could monitor the contributors to response time and go wave charts and figures at the DB, OS, or integration team as appropriate. The nice thing was that they didn't need to pester me, they get complaints, consult the diagrams (http-based usually), and take initiative on their own. Of course there are managers and mismanagers, so some you leave ignorant. But if you can bring the amenable ones on board it makes for an easier time of it. Thanks for the feedback. A drawing program can be nice. Like inkscape or others mentioned. But I am focused on process and system diagrams. It looks like dia is more suited for that purpose.
