## Richard (Aeon+botmaster)
Aeon/tik had a fun bug where health-checker would fail on first boot
before network was configured, because of the introduction of a zypper
test that assumed a populated cache.
This manifested in many cases with GDM loading but then not able to
login/autologin as health-checker had blocked the rest of booting
health-checker has been temporarily removed from tik as a result
This issue has triggered investigations in the following area
* Disabling getty generator (we don't need local TTY's, and they can
block messages from health-checker late in boot)
lkocman: just be aware that you might cut yourself from some openQA
scenarios choosing like tty6 etc ....
* Use gdm-systemd instead of display-manager; This is mostly to
simplfy having gdm as a mandatory service by health-checker, but
wayland by default/everywhere will be a bonus
* Adding health-checker tests specifically for Aeon - which will push
health-checker to running later in the boot and as a result make the
behaviour less likely to occur semi 'randomly' when multiple services
are starting in parralel.
Also in discussions with the SELinux team about tuning/forking
microos-tools to stop relabeling all of /srv and /home all the time
making Aeon boots much slower than they need to be

Many thanks to Andrii, Max, Dee, Oliver and Santi.
Next steps is to create needles for Agama based install, probably
start from scratch (or copy boot to desktop). I'm not much in favor of
reusing https://openqa.opensuse.org/group_overview/116. Official agama
test suite will use pupeteer which will probably take quite some time
to develop.
Nice progress on branding we have received vector of mountain && tent

tik v1.2 development progressing nicely.
Full Disk Encryption branch appears to be feature complete, with both
Default Mode (TPM bound) and Fallback more (passphrases) implimented
Last manual testing underway before merging and submitting to Factory.
Will require changes to images and confinement tooling, some of which
are already submitted.
https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Aeon/Encryption and
https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Aeon/Encryption/Advanced being
continually updated as things development
Aeon RC3 will be declared as soon as tik v1.2 is released in Factory
Aeon RC4 will be functionally identical to RC3, but will be
investigating an alternative installation approach which may avoid the
need for confining images. If this does not work, RC3 will be the
framework for release, with openQA tests being written around it.
https://aeondesktop.org/ and all Aeon documentation now using
"openSUSE-less" branding. Aeon-release needs to be updated to match.

## Leap
(last week was busy LABS + MFF Job fair)
openSUSE 15.6 RC was published last friday
https://news.opensuse.org/2024/04/29/try-cockpit-in-leap-rc/
Podman was finally unforked in SLES (on Apr 30) so we'll have the 4.8.3
which fixes distrobox issues
I am still unhappy about the desktop Wayland situation with
chrome/flatpak apps.
We have broken input switching, and annyoing flickering with NVIDIA.
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Known_bugs_15.6
DocB: Testing of GNUHealth so far without issues, same for LXQt desktop,
Onionshare to be tested
Max: \o/
Leap 16
Shared concerns about the currently proposed schedule of SLES.
Leap Micro 6.0
Need to revisit re-adding of RT flavor and re-check default registiries
(SLE Micro limits it newly to only registry.suse.com) I'd like to
transition to Beta next week.
Look into registris-conf-suse has installed rather than
registris-conf-default while building Leap-Micro image, it was about
patterns-micro has a "Requires: (registries-conf-default if
libcontainers-common)", patterns-micro has forked in
openSUSE:Leap:Micro:6.0, and adjsuted the requirment.
Agreement with Daniel Rahn, that we could get Leap Micro 6.X to public
cloud. Lubos will sync up with Alex Osthof whether it would be possible.
openSUSE Being part of community catalog in Azure (received a headsup in
in discuss-opensuse on slack)
Conversation with Alex Osthof -> Robert Scheweikert. Due to capacity,
LeapMicro in clouds would be only taken care off as a low priority via a
ticket in backlog. Public Cloud team seems to be pretty busy.

* dbus-broker as default dbus session manager, now everything builds,
some openQA checks failing.
## Richard (Aeon+botmaster)
tik has been rewritten from being a TUI-based installer to a GUI one
Just completed the first test of tik 0.2.0 which is MVP feature complete
- image based install (2-3minutes vs ~15 for Tumbleweed)
- detects existing btrfs /home on the disk that it would be wiping
over and offers to back it up and restore it
- detailed logging with a single log for uploading to bug reports
- fully-fledged Aeon-based GUI installer session, very nice for
debugging
Next step - writing a post hook to put the Aeon OS image inside the Aeon
installer image

## Leap
Reworked time of the Leap feature meeting into UTC. We'll likely have
to move by an hour next year, once we have summer time again.
https://calendar.opensuse.org/ Remains 3-3:30pm CET
Initial review of features, please don't submit "please add package to
Leap". Rather submit directly the package instead. Let's track SLES 16
package updates, larger efforts (GNOME 48.1, Xfce enablement etc), LTS
specials, .... Simplified approval of SLES 16 package updates via
single jsc#PED-10084
We're also sorry for flooding maintainers with reviews for initial
Leap 16.0 submissions, but unfortunately this is the case with initial
mass-submit from Factory. Thank you for your understanding.
GCP - (Google Cloud Platform) we might need to remove all openSUSE
images, and re-upload them under a new account. Right now Leap is
basically listed with "SUSE logo" which already caused accidental
deployments by SUSE customers. SUSE's public cloud team doesn't have a
way to change the profile/logo at the moment. We'll have a meeting
about this later today.
Micro 6.0 - not all packages are in repositories
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1230189 I'll try to
implement _all_ in 6.1 and backport it to 6.0
Micro 6.1 - slow progress, next step is openQA
Helping out on the TW rebrand effort, we're almost ready to go.

## Richard (Aeon+botmaster)
Working on text-based mode for tik (for s390x/PPC and other non-Aeon use cases)
ptyxis as a recommended flatpak should be submitted today
all other Aeon work has been somewhat blocked by the tsunami of
Leap:16 submissions making my OBS queue impossible to follow.

shared packages where other maintainers may be willing to support the
package in Leap.

Leap 15.6 - pending transition of default background to png
https://news.opensuse.org/2024/04/09/common-wallpaper-path/
The reason is to have parity with icon set and background path with
SLES, so we can run apps that utilize
background.
^ This will unblock addition of cockpit to both Leap && Package HUB
(currently blocked on libssh regression from SP4)
https://code.opensuse.org/leap/features/issue/14
Test build in https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:lkocman:branches:openSUSE:Leap…
Leap Micro 6.0 - Alpha availabiltiy on get-o-o today/tomorrow
https://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap-micro/6.0/
Leap Micro 6.X will not have the Elemental image since SLE Micro's
elemental image (bare-metal-container) has a license exception for a
free use.
Agreement with Daniel Rahn, that we could get Leap Micro 6.X to public
cloud. Lubos will sync up with Alex Osthof whether it would be
possible.
SUSE Open Source policy review - (Date bump)

## Leap
Leap 15.6
WIP Release notes entry Thanks to Antonio for heads up
https://github.com/openSUSE/release-notes-openSUSE/pull/153
This reminded me about a need to have new RN publishing infra for
16.0. 15.6 is all manual after migration of community-o-o to
community2.
* Inputs from Sarah on downgraded packages see ML links in s390x section.
Leap 16
We're finally testing Leap 16.0 from the right project, Leap is using
agama-installer-Leap to not conflict with other openQA setups (for
agama:devel and TW)
https://openqa.opensuse.org/group_overview/129 many thanks to Fabian
for getting the sync working.
* The Next step is to put agama.installer_url to use WIP PR is here
https://github.com/os-autoinst/os-autoinst-distri-opensuse/pull/20064
Leap 16 initial "abstract" wallpaper set (3pcs) confirmed, a few
additional ones one the go. WIP SR is in place.
* rework https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/tree/leap-16.0 so the
input is a single svg per aspect ratio, and then resize them to
particular resolutions we've picked up. The current plan is that this
repo would hold contain all of these wallpapers.
* dark/light config for GNOME
* I did speak to Fabian and Antonio about KDE availability prior to
public annoucement of 16.0 Alpha, and they're on it.
* The dark/light themes will be non-trivial for KDE. Antonio will
have a loot at it.
^ Line 20+ applies for Tumbleweed as well
* Need to finalize cleanup of agama-product icons
https://github.com/openSUSE/agama/pull/1550
Should probably start working on Leap Micro 6.1 - SLEM 6.1 is already
has public Beta out
https://www.suse.com/c/suse-linux-enterprise-micro-6-1-public-beta-is-now-a…
The hottest feature seems to be soft-reboot on. Would be nice to do
some more Leap Micro demos touching this on youtube.
## openSUSE Tumbleweed (ana)
openSUSE:Factory build fail stats: 15 failed 9 unresolvable (last week
19 failed, 2 unresolvable)
https://tinyurl.com/ysy4nnnz (in reality more when some builds with
gcc14 are triggered)
594 requests accepted in the last week
Most relevant changes:
Switch to GCC14 as default compiler in 20240827. There are still lots
of packages outside ring0 and ring1 failing to build, please see
https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/factory@lists.opensuse.org/thread/…
or directly https://tinyurl.com/ysy4nnnz
dbus-broker as default dbus session manager 🎉,🎉,🎉,; at least wicked
has been identified to start before dbus-broker, resulting in
'non-functional network' -

Other updates:
KDE Release gear 24.08.0
bluez 5.77

python312 3.12.5 (blocked by python-hypothesmith:test FTBFS - a test times out)
perl-Bootloader to be renamed to update-bootloader, openQA tests needs
updating https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/165686

Leap 16.0
* cleanup SLFO overlapping package in Leap 16.0 project
* it's now be able to freeze 16.0 staging via staging freeze cmd
* ftp-tree builds in staging, but it's too large even now we don't
have KDE package yet
* in order to get a smaller packageset to build ftp-tree in staging, I
did set up Rings project for Leap 16.0
* make 0 package build fail on x86_64 in 16.0
lkocman: Dimstar mentioned that perhaps we want to make a storage HW
request for 16.0, as we'll build more trees and images than in 15.3+
(where we started to use adi stagings only).
Adrian: the entire model of stagings might change, there is multiple
possibilities. It's also the data transfer aside from pure storage.
Max: Same situation with staging will happen soon on Tumbleweed.
## Guillaume - Arm
Tumbleweed:
* Rolling but affected by a dbus-broker bug
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1229745
Leap 15.5:
* RPi3 boot problem related to a kernel update
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1225352
Leap 15.6:
* No blocker
## Sarah - s390x
* Tumbleweed rolling
* s390-tools are updated
Topic openSUSE on Hercules
* hercules package not compatible with openSUSE Tumbleweed (x86) any more
-> new project on Github https://github.com/SDL-Hercules-390/hyperion
(updating in OBS)
Hints about special instructions in Hercules:
https://www.mail-archive.com/linux-390@vm.marist.edu/msg74185.html
Kernel problem with Leap/Tumbleweed on new Hercules emulator (zram
kernel trace):
https://www.mail-archive.com/linux-390@vm.marist.edu/msg74187.html
-> Ihno tries to reproduce and analyze
Question: How to handle such kernel bugs? IBM does not like Hercules...
User feedback about reasons for switching from Leap to Tumbleweed
(because of Upgrade problems):
https://www.mail-archive.com/linux-390@vm.marist.edu/msg74188.html
Leap 16.0 will very likely have similar maintenance workflow as Leap
Micro 6.1, which does not utilize :Update project. Perhaps some of
these issues would simply go away by design.

## Maintenance team (Marcus, Robert)
* Sarah mentioned 20 downgrades of packages during distribution
upgrade. Details in
https://www.mail-archive.com/linux-390@vm.marist.edu/msg74188.html
lkocman: will open a bug report and will get list of packages from the ML above.
Adrian: there is a bug in the scheduler, maybe caused by patchinfo GA
this seems to be the main blocker for maintenance. (Adrian please
correct me).
lkocman: I need to make sure that Micro 6.0 / 6.1 will contain
product-composer fixes.
