Tumbleweed - Review of the week 2024/43
by Dominique Leuenberger
Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
It’s Week 43, and Tumbleweed has rolled out five brand-new snapshots!
That’s right—five bundles (1017, 1018, 1021, 1022, and 1023) of
updates, improvements, and fixes were delivered straight to your
desktops, keeping everything sharp and secure. Whether you’re here for
the latest packages or simply looking to stay in the loop, there’s
plenty to get excited about. Let’s jump into the highlights from this
week’s releases! 🚀
📅 Week 43 Highlights:
* Qt 6.8.0
* Systemd 256.7
* Virtualbox 7.1.4
* Mozilla Firefox 131.0.3
* meson 1.6.0
* GNOME 47.1
These snapshots showcase the fantastic work of openSUSE contributors,
developers, and testers, who’ve been working around the clock to keep
our systems fresh and finely tuned. 💚
And it wouldn’t be a complete ‘review of the week’ without looking
forward to what’s on the horizon. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the
goodness we can expect next week and beyond! 🌄
🌟 What’s Coming Up in Tumbleweed:
* Linux kernel 6.11.5
* KDE Plasma 6.2.2
* New artwork (wallpaper and Distro logo)
* SWIG 4.3.0: breaks a few packages
* LLVM 19: Needs Mesa 24.2.x
* Mesa 24.2.x:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/11840
* Change the default LSM (opted in at installation) to SELinux.
AppArmor is still an option, just not the default. This change only
impacts new installations. Before going live, we tested this at openQA,
and it identified some bugs; see
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1230118.
Thanks for tuning into this week’s review! There’s always something
exciting coming down the pipeline in openSUSE, so be sure to stay up-
to-date with these snapshots and keep sharing your thoughts and
feedback with the community! 🌐
Happy updating, and see you next week! 🦎
Cheers,
Dominique

issue with libQt6Core.so.6 don't let me to dup my Tumbleweed
by victorhck
Hello listmates
Since a couple of weeks (or so, cant't remember the date) I can't zypper
dup my tumbleweed + Plasma system.
Everytime I lauch the command zypper says that
"telegram-desktop-5.5.5-1.2.x86_64 installed requires
libQt6Core.so.6(Qt_6.7.3_PRIVATE_API)(64bit)"
I have options:
keep obsolete
libQt6Core6-6.7.3-1.1.x86_64
libQt6Gui6-6.7.3-1.1.x86_64
libQt6Widgets6-6.7.3-1.1.x86_64
libQt6DBus6-6.7.3-1.1.x86_64
libQt6OpenGL6-6.7.3-1.1.x86_64
uninstall telegram-dektop (nope!)
brake telegram-desktop breaking dependencies (nope!)
If I choose the 1st option, then ask me for many other packages that
also nee libQt6Core.so.6(Qt_6.8)(64bit)
I though that this would be fixed in a few days, but I'm stuck with this
issue and can't update.
¿did something wrong? ¿should update some package or change somethig?
Greetings.

openSUSE:Factory - Build fail notification
by DimStar / Dominique Leuenberger
Dear Package maintainers and hackers.
Below package(s) in openSUSE:Factory have had problems for at
least 4 weeks. We tried to send out notifications to the
configured bugowner/maintainers of the package(s), but so far no
fix has been submitted. This probably means that the
maintainer/bugowner did not yet find the time to look into the
matter and he/she would certainly appreciate help to get this
sorted.
- xone: Uninstallable: nothing provides ksym(default:ieee80211_get_hdrlen_from_skb) = 935b136b needed by xone-kmp-default-0.3+git50.58004bf_k6.10.5_1.x86_64
Unless somebody is stepping up and submitting fixes, the listed
package(s) are going to be removed from openSUSE:Factory.
Kind regards,
DimStar / Dominique Leuenberger <dimstar(a)opensuse.org>

* Use the dark 800x600 also for the back.png.
* Use default.png instead of default-light.png to maximize compatability.
* Stop using static/dynamic xml files.
* Drop resolution-specific .desktop files.
they're useless now when we have single default.png
and default-dark.png. Entry in
/usr/share/gnome-background-properties is enough.

Hello!
Telegram 5.5.5 can't be built with Qt 6.8.0+
[ 373s] from /home/abuild/rpmbuild/BUILD/tdesktop-5.5.5-
full/Telegram/ThirdParty/kcoreaddons/src/lib/util/kshell.cpp:9:
[ 373s] /usr/include/qt6/QtCore/qchar.h:66:2: error: #error This macro has
been removed in Qt 6.8.
There's already a submit request (#1208908) to update Telegram to 5.6.3 (which
builds with Qt 6.8.0).
Uninstall Telegram or don't update Tumbleweed until this is fixed.
Greetings,

Subpackages: libmailutils9
- Add patch MALLOC_PERTURB_.patch
* Fix memory pool handling which otherwise cause failing
mimeview due missing mime types due set MALLOC_PERTURB_
environment variable
- Update to mailutils 3.17:
* Use of TLS in pop3d and imap4d
If not explicitly specified, the TLS mode to use (ondemand, connect,
etc.) is derived from the configured port. E.g., for imap4d, port 143
implies ondemand mode, and port 993 implies connection mode.
The global tls-mode setting is used only when the mode cannot be
detemined otherwise, i.e. neither per-server tls-mode is given nor
the port gives any clues as to the TLS mode to use.
* Bugfixes
+ movemail: fix handling of -P option.
+ pop3d, imap4d: fix global timeout and transcript configuration statements
+ pop3d, imap4d: global tls-mode is used only when the mode to use cannot
be determined otherwise.
+ pop3d, imap4d: if not set explicitly, derive tls mode from the port used.
+ Improve file safety checking routine.
+ Fix compilation with new gcc versions.
