[zypp-devel] PackageKit updaters want to install vendor change updates in 11.4
Hi I'd like to make some noise about this bug: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=637764 I assume it stems from the PK zypp backend. Since both gnome-packagekit and kpackagekit are affected. The implications of it are many and severe: * A return to the repo ping-pong of pre-vendor sticky times * Users installing OBS and packman updates thinking they're official patches * All the effort to implement and explain vendor sticky in zypp/yast will have been more or less in vain * It will be confusing for users that the updater behaves differently and shows load more updates than yast or zypper up/patch Basically what the packagekit updaters are doing on 11.4, is the equivalent of pushing users to run 'zypper dup' on a regular basis. Surely this can't be intended? Any chance it can be fixed in time for 11.4? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: zypp-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: zypp-devel+help@opensuse.org

We'll try offer a method in libzypp, computing the applicable patches and packages. Once this works, PK backend could use it. -- cu, Michael Andres +------------------------------------------------------------------+ Key fingerprint = 2DFA 5D73 18B1 E7EF A862 27AC 3FB8 9E3A 27C6 B0E4 +------------------------------------------------------------------+ Michael Andres ZYPP Development ma@suse.de SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) Maxfeldstrasse 5, D-90409 Nuernberg, Germany, ++49 (0)911 - 740 53-0 +------------------------------------------------------------------+ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: zypp-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: zypp-devel+help@opensuse.org
