Yes. Both features sound nice. Last night my VPN stopped half way through a large zypper transaction... no fun.
For first case maybe this article[0] also solv if customer need safety upgrade and error happen during installation (after all downloaded). But this must be only optional, because it is slower and also consume more disk space.
