[yast-devel] Webyast: users dialog prototype
Hi! 1.st prototype you can find here: http://w3.suse.de/~mzugec/users.html Known issues: - filter (case insesitive) by fullname & login (now it compares uppercase with mixed) - clean filter with button (not working now) Your feedback is welcome ... Hi! 1.st prototype you can find here: http://w3.suse.de/~mzugec/users.html
Thanks ! Some remarks - place the filter above the column the filter applies to - you're losing precios space by keeping room for the 'remove' icon this space should open up as the mouse hovers over the entry - How do I edit an entry ? - think about this dialog with 20 or 200 users, will it still be usable ? What will scroll off the screen ? - I had trouble with the JavaScript in one browser. Did you use the code Robert (rlihm) wrote last year for this type of dialog ? Hi!
Thanks !
Some remarks
- place the filter above the column the filter applies to
It's still under construction. Now it's list instead of table. But I'll improve that.
- you're losing precios space by keeping room for the 'remove' icon
this space should open up as the mouse hovers over the entry IMHO best would be to place 'remove' icon in left side (after login and fullname)
- How do I edit an entry ?
Just by click anywhere on list item except 'remove' icon
- think about this dialog with 20 or 200 users, will it still be usable ? What will scroll off the screen ?
I don't have solution for this if filter is not enough. Any ideas?

I used code from gagarin.suse.de prototype. Try refresh now, it works for me.

Hi! Thanks for the prototype! It already looks quite nice & simple. Additionally to that I have the following remarks: * place the filter in the upper left corner (maybe we should get a css entry for search fields in general as they are also used elsewhere) * Remove the string "Filter" and use prefilled text field to tell the user what this field is about (e.g. "User name or login") * The "Remove filter string" button right to the box should be removed as it is in the same position where usually the "OK, now start the search/filter" button is positioned. This might confuse the user. What about removing this button completely? The user can still remove his filter entries directly in the field? This would also solve the problem that the icon to delete a filter and to delete a user are different. * remove bullet points in the list of users
- How do I edit an entry ?
Just by click anywhere on list item except 'remove' icon
Do the settings shown slide open when I click on the page or are they opened in a new link? Do we need to show "Delete" that prominent or wouldn`t it be sufficient to show it on the same level as settings?
- think about this dialog with 20 or 200 users, will it still be usable ? What will scroll off the screen ?

Concerning scalability: I would recommend to move the "add new user" link/button on top of the list (above filter) so it is always accessible in the same place. I used list instead of DIVs because jreidinger told me we have css definitions for list items. Michal
