[yast-devel] Collecting bugs related to the desktop files change
Hi there! Yesterday, Imobach suggested collecting the reported bugs related to changes done recently in the desktop files[1] to document the implications to bear in mind next time that they need to be changed. It looks to be a good idea, thus I'm asking for help to do it. At the moment, we have located the followings * Inferring correct module name in AutoYaST: https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1140233 * Confusion about using the right module name: https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1138144 https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1140339 * "Missing" desktop translations: https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1145197 * Changes the user experience in Gnome search (for both, better and worst): https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1144952 * Wrong references in yast2-schema: http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1144894 If you don't mind, please help us to complete the list. Thanks in advance. Regards. PS: originally sent to the yast-internal list by mistake :) [1] https://github.com/yast/yast-yast2/issues/934 -- David Díaz González YaST Team at SUSE Linux GmbH

Wow, that's a lot of bugs, sorry for the trouble! I am planning a change that will hopefully improve the desktop files translation issues, but I'm quite busy and don't know when I will be able to work on that. The proposal was to include translations inside the desktop files, which would be included there during build process by rake build system. There is one more change I would like to make, for the sake of improving the desktop experience, which unfortunetely requires all the module desktop files to be moved out of the /usr/share/applications/YaST2 folder. As you can imagine, it's a real pain, because it requires ycc and y2 ncurses list to scan the entire /usr/share/applications directory for yast modules. That's on the backburner mainly because I want to do both that and using xdg menu spec for yast groups instead of using desktop files in /usr/share/applications/YaST2/groups. You can see how that would work in https://github.com/yast/yast-yast2/pull/936 The change this would allow to make would eliminate the need to set the icons and application titles (not to be confused with window titles) for YaST with libyui-qt entirely, because they would be set by the wm from the desktop file and they would be set according to WM's needs, which means they would be at the correct resolution as the DE requires. Currently libyui-qt chooses the highest resolution icon possible, which doesn't look the best when downscaled by the DE. This would also allow DEs to group yast windows together depending on the module. Nevertheless, sorry for the trouble those changes caused you already, and keep up the good work! No problem! It was simply impossible to anticipate those problems even during the code reviews. What we want to achieve know is having the implications documented so, in the future, things will be easier. Thanks for your contributions!
