Not NTP details, but details :-) It was a conclusion to move it away from the main screen after a discussion with our UI designer. The reason is the amount of users, who - don't know what it means at all - even if they know, they stick with default and don't need to change or simply don't care The intention is to keep in the main workflow only stuff, which is necessary, easy to understand and which most of the users need to change. Knowing doesn't really help. Whoever put it where it used to be was very wise. Now I have to go into details on absolutely *every* install, and for no other reason in most cases. Whether the box is checked by default or not is completely unpredictable on multiboot systems, and needs to be in correct state before proceeding lest one suffer multiple annoying fsck mount date in future messages on successive boots, or even time-wasting forced fscks. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Hi, It should be set if there is no windows partition detected. Otherwise unchecked. If it doesn't happen, then you should report it. So correct behavior is quite easy to predict. What if one has FAT and HPFS but no Windows? What if only post-WinXP NTFS and no FAT (Windows using UTC instead of local)?
unchecked. If it doesn't happen, then you should report it. So correct behavior is quite easy to predict.
First one must remember the problem so that one can remember to go into the otherwise completely unnecessary details screen. Even then I don't necessarily know the right answer yet, as the partitioning isn't presented until after the date/time section is past. Also, having a mix of UTC and Local on one LAN is its own set of problems I prefer to avoid, and so set to Local on most installations whether only Linux is present or not, because any installations ever active on the LAN are in local time. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Whether they know or not what it means isn't as important as it being correct for those who do. There is a help button for those who don't but are interested to know enough to click it. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
