[yast-devel] Highlights for the Leap 15.1 announcement
The time for the release announcement of Leap 15.1 is approaching. I was asked to provide some list of highlights related to YaST. Some obvious things that come to mind are: Look&Feel ========= - The sidebar with the steps of the installation process is back. - New icons everywhere. - Better HiDPI (4k Display) Support Installer improvements ====================== - Choosing the network backend during installation with one click. - Just click "next" to install (open)SUSE in a Raspberry Pi. - Configuration of SSH keys during installation (password-less systems) - Better default partitioning proposal in several scenarios (like small disks, systems with several disks and more). New Functionality ================= - Better management of services. - New UI to manage Firewalld, including AutoYaST support. - Better support for Salt formulas in yast2-configuration-management. - Better management of SSH keys per user. - The Partitioner can now directly format full disks, create software MD RAIDs on top of full disks, create partitions within a software-defined MD RAID and many others combinations. Including AutoYaST support for all those combinations. - Preliminary support for bcache in the Partitioner. I plan to expand those bullet points to be something bigger than a sentence (in the cases in which that makes sense), but first a wondered whether I was overlooking something interesting for the majority of final Leap 15.1 users. - Choosing the network backend during installation with one click.
Will this be presented in same manner with net installs? IOW, when installation cmdline provides complete fixed-IP configuration, will there even be a question? -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science. Team OS/2 ** Reg. I found some more interesting topics, please check them, maybe some of them could be mentioned as well...
Look&Feel =========
- Better textmode support for CJK languages (using fbiterm) http://yast.opensuse.org/blog/2018/11/20/highlights-of-yast-development-spri... Sure, this is mostly important for the CJK users, but it changes the look for all languages anyway (it uses a bit different console font than the standard Linux console) so it might be a good idea to mention this as well so the users know the reason for the change of the look.
Installer improvements ======================
- Intel Rapid Start Technology Support http://yast.opensuse.org/blog/2018/09/12/yast-squad-sprint-62/#intel-rapid-s... I do not know how much this technology is used in new laptops, I have an old one without this technology. But it looks like a nice feature which might be worth mentioning. This will at least show that we not only fix bugs but we also take care of new technologies.
New Functionality =================
- The Snapper can report the unique used space for each snapshot http://yast.opensuse.org/blog/2018/10/09/highlights-of-yast-development-spri... Not really for YaST, but it could be mentioned in the other section of the announcement, looks like a nice new feature. -- Best Regards Ladislav Slezák Yast Developer ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SUSE LINUX, s.r.o. e-mail: lslezak@suse.cz Lihovarská 1060/12 tel: +420 284 028 960 190 00 Prague 9 fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: yast-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: yast-devel+owner@opensuse.org
Just a reminder about the new blog posts, that are actually extending some of the bullet-points in this original mail. On 1/21/19 6:30 PM, Ancor Gonzalez Sosa wrote:

It took some time, but I have finally put this together in some way that hopefully makes sense. I did it by updating the sections Snapper, YaST and AutoYaST of the Leap 15.1 features page. The content starts at https://en.opensuse.org/Features_15.1#Snapper I tried to incorporate all the feedback from this thread, but if you want to add or correct anything... its a wiki. ;-) Cheers. -- Ancor González Sosa YaST Team at SUSE Linux GmbH -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: yast-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: yast-devel+owner@opensuse.org

And if you prefer other way of contributing, you can update the screenshots at https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:15.1/Screenshots they still show the 15.0 installer. Of course, you can add any other screenshot to that page to highlight your favorite YaST feature.
