[yast-devel] New yast agent name
Hi, now in git we have for yast++/-- name for our agent systemagent ( and also not unify singular and plural). It is also coded in generator. Before we start work on more agents and libs (like for polkit configuration ) it would be nice to decide if this is right name. Ideas for other names: yast_agent configkit (there is still not enough kits :) yast_kit config_agent system_kit more ideas? Also singular or plural to unify it? I plan to change it after my vacation to *final* state and (because I don't care about name ) don't want any future discussion :) Josef -- Josef Reidinger Appliance Toolkit team maintaining parts of webyast and SLMS author of rubygems - studio_api and net_observer (coauthor) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: yast-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: yast-devel+help@opensuse.org

One question that comes to my mind: Do we really need to call it .*agent.*? Isn't that rather kind of API used for accessing (r/w) system configuration files? Why not to base the name on the functionality it provides? 1.) 'system' and/or 'config[uration]' in the name would say what it provides. 2.) I already have enough kits ;) Thank you! 3.) Let's not use 'yast'. I thought we wanted to reuse that library whenever possible. Not only in YaST. On the other hand ... system_config might sound too close to sysconfig. One thing I really love in Linux world: Program names based on what their developer had for breakfast, their pet names, etc. ;) OK, Agent Sander (version 0.0.7) sounds like a good company for our Aardvark :) or even Wrenchy :D Lukas -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.16 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with SUSE - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iEYEARECAAYFAk5NcwAACgkQVSqMdRCqTixsngCglkqKCu1rh1uAw7jHuoMGTM4p yzsAn3rRP+330/avKy01wGGqJmvgLkH9 =+3Jr -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: yast-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: yast-devel+help@opensuse.org

Well, there is a serious reasoning behind the proposal: What is the most famous aardvark after YaSTie? Arthur, of course: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Arthur_characters And who the landlord mentioned in the series is: Mr. Sanders! Of course, "sander" is also a power tool: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sander Therefore, it's ideal name we are looking for :) That's the end of the story and good night :D Stano P.S. As an alternative proposal, could we use Mr. Anderson? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: yast-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: yast-devel+help@opensuse.org

It seems you have intimate knowledge about Linux program names. I still wonder about the meaning of rep in the GNU rep program. Perhaps you could enlighten me? By the way: Nowadays every name in computing world must start with an 'i' so that it must be i<whatever>. Kind Regards Johannes Meixner P.S. OK, I've created a new pool at Doodle.com, anyone can vote for a new "Agent" name :) Anyone can suggest a new name and I'll (probably) add it there. Please, express yourself at http://www.doodle.com/5z2x4purba7tshah We are looking forward your opinions because they do matter. And the winner is config_agent. Thanks, I've just closed the poll on Doodle.com. It's still visible but it cannot be edited anymore. Thx for voting and Bye Lukas - -- Lukas Ocilka, Appliances Department, SUSE LINUX s.r.o.
