[yast-devel] YaST goes yellow-black :-)
Hola! I've created new theme for text-mode YaST interface, so besides default white-on-blue one, you can now enjoy yellow-on-black theme, which will be applied in the future to urxvt-style terminals by default. Here are some preliminary screenshots: main window: http://users.suse.cz/~kmachalkova/mainwin.png sw_single module: http://users.suse.cz/~kmachalkova/swsingle.png release notes (richtext): http://users.suse.cz/~kmachalkova/relnotes.png Once feature #301893 is finished, you can pick text-mode YaST interface theme yourself by defining sysconfig variable Enjoy! Look cool (coal) ;)

Anyway, which variable is it? Could you write some examples how to do that, please? L.

Sure :-) With yast2-ncurses-2.15.19 or newer, and yast2-2.15.37 or newer there is a sysconfig variable Y2NCURSES_COLOR_THEME in /etc/sysconfig/yast2. This variable enables user to set color theme of text-mode UI independent of current terminal settings. Possible values are: xterm, linux - well-known blue-white-cyan themes rxvt - new yellow-black-red theme mono - black-white-grey monochrome theme braille - contrast cyan-blue theme, optimized for visually impaired users As for the new rxvt theme - please give it a try and report any discrepancies, low contrasts, strange colors, characters, and other ugly things to me, so that I can fine-tune the theme. I certainly cannot check all possible dialogs and widgets myself, as well as I probably might not have picked the right color combination for some purposes. That's why I'd appreciate your help. Also, if you have any ideas for new themes for text-mode, let me know. B. -- \\\\\ Katarina Machalkova \\\\\\\__o YaST developer __\\\\\\\'/_ & hedgehog painter

That kind of reminds me of late 80s amber monitors with Hercules monochrome graphics... ;-) (both of which I liked pretty much back then) CU -- Stefan Hundhammer <sh@suse.de> Penguin by conviction. Hi Katerina, Sounds nice, would also like to have a look at those. :) Server refuses connection from me though; any chance to get those uploaded somewhere for the rest of us? :) Cheers, Ricardo

Yes, the server with screenshots is not accesible to people outside SUSE/Novell. In the meantime I've uploaded them to opensuse.org, so that everyone can have a look. http://en.opensuse.org/Image:Mainwin.png http://en.opensuse.org/Image:Swsingle.png http://en.opensuse.org/Image:Relnotes.png Enjoy! will there be a kernel command line parameter (Linuxrc) to choose the theme for installation? Thanks, Bernhard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: yast-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: yast-devel+help@opensuse.org

AFAIK the kernel exports the unrecognized parameters as environment variables, so it should work already. -- Martin Vidner, YaST developer http://en.opensuse.org/User:Mvidner Kuracke oddeleni v restauraci je jako fekalni oddeleni v bazenu -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: yast-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: yast-devel+help@opensuse.org

Which environment variable can be used to set the color theme? I only saw the /etc/sysconfig variable in that thread. Thanks, Bernhard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: yast-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: yast-devel+help@opensuse.org

Y2NCURSES_COLOR_THEME comes from sysconfig, but gets normally 'export'-ed into environment by /sbin/yast2 script. So you can alternatively set Y2NCURSES_COLOR_THEME to any of allowed values (xterm, linux, rxvt, mono, braille) yourself in the shell, or in .bashrc. In that case, however, make sure this variable in /etc/sysconfig/yast2 is empty (which it is, by default) otherwise it gets overwritten by /sbin/yast2 B. -- \\\\\ Katarina Machalkova \\\\\\\__o YaST developer __\\\\\\\'/_ & hedgehog painter
