X.Org 7 packages available for SUSE 10.1/10.2 (Alpha)
Hi I'm happy to announce the availabiltiy of X.Org 7 packages for SUSE 10.1/10.2 (Alpha). These are still to be considered experimental. Therefore installing them on production system is *not* recommended. See also http://build.opensuse.org/project/show?project=xorg7 for more details. Feedback will be appreciated. Please send it to the list and not to me directly. Thanks. 10.1 Download: http://software.opensuse.org/download/xorg7/Java_Sun-Java-1.5_SUSE_Linux_10.... 10.2 (Alpha) Download: http://software.opensuse.org/download/xorg7/SUSE_Factory/ <IMPORTANT> Please do *not* use any of the other directories (SLES_9/SUSE_Linux_9.3/SUSE_Linux_10.0/SUSE_Linux_10.1/standard). The RPMs inside are definitely broken and will break your system. These directories only still exist due to bugs in our buildservice and need to be removed for the future. Unfortunately due to limitation in our buildsystem I cannot provide X.Org 7 packages for distributions older than SUSE 10.1. I really tried hard. :-( </IMPORTANT> Best regards, Stefan Public Key available ------------------------------------------------------ Stefan Dirsch (Res. & Dev.) Indeed this is annoying. I've added ' Option "RenderAccel" "no" ' to Section "Device" to workaround this issue. Hope this helps. I'll need to add a openSUSE 10.2 (>=Alpha3) section to my NVIDIA Installer HOWTO later. Hmm. I would need more details here to investigate this issue. But since you're already back to 6.9 ... :-(

Yes, this would be something for openSUSE. You need to remove /usr/lib/X11 /usr/include/X11 before you reinstall the X.Org 6.9 packages. We just checked the script - it never was able to actually run on Linux at all (PATH issues)! yep, i forget to copy the noarch part in the assumption that the current fonts would be ok to use. unfortunately they where removed and fontpackets from the 10.1 lack the cursorfonts (i could not find one). hence the idea of a fall back added to the server packet. they do not have to look pretty. my special problem is that the ascii terminal display is disturbed after X, so hard to read and harder to fix any problems :) a 'working' X11 with 1 font 1 cursor would be ok for start. (i guess you get the idea). ntl separating the 33MB fonts is good, i doubt they will change much between the releases. re, wh

i have just tried the new X11 beta. and it seems to work. i mist the fonts in the first trial causing some problems. can you add a 'fixed' and 'cursor' as fallback to the x11 package ? Looks like you forgot to install the xorg-x11-fonts (noarch) package.
yep, i forget to copy the noarch part in the assumption that the current fonts would be ok to use. unfortunately they where removed and fontpackets from the 10.1 lack the cursorfonts (i could not find one). hence the idea of a fall back added to the server packet. they do not have to look pretty. my special problem is that the ascii terminal display is disturbed after X, so hard to read and harder to fix any problems :) a 'working' X11 with 1 font 1 cursor would be ok for start. (i guess you get the idea). ntl separating the 33MB fonts is good, i doubt they will change much between the releases.

hi Stefan, i finally found the time to fix the missing bits. the rpm's work for my laptop.
ntl: i noticed a setpgid() failed because of wrong permissions, no matter running as root or not. perhaps this part is not needed at all ?
