Dear All, I am running SuSE Linux 8.2 on an evo N620c laptop. From time to time when the X server is started or restarted the screen starts flickering and I need to restart the server.(the image dissapears or it becomes fuzy - az if the frequency would not be set rigth, or the entire screen becomes black and then slowly turns to white as if burning from inside out). It happens quite often (about every second time I start X). The laptop has an Ati videocard (Radeon 7500 LW if I am not mistaking - SuSE is using the right drivers so I do not think this is the problem) It might be the screen?!? (it is set to generic laptop panel). Is this a problem that has been reported by others? on other type of laptops (I have used 3 laptops so far and never had a problem like this. also have used other distros on this laptop and have had the same problem) I do not believe something is wrong with the hardware since it is a dual boot with windows 2000 and the latter runs ok. It is either a bug or something needs to be configured. could you help me on this please! Cheers, Tibi ____________________________________________________ Alexandru Tiberiu CODILEAN PhD Student Hunter Hall East, Room 312 Department of Geography & Geomatics University of Glasgow Glasgow G12 8QQ Tel: +44 (0)141 339 8855 ext 0401 Fax: +44 (0)141 330 4894 Email: tcodilean@geog.gla.ac.uk Web: http://www.geog.gla.ac.uk/~tcodilean/
