[opensuse-xorg] Re: [opensuse] Disabling display power management

You have absolutely no justification for saying that - if I want or need the display ON all the while that the machine is on then that is my business. I should be able to chose that. It shouldn't be necessary to hack around in a system-wide config file, or add entries to login scripts - a simple "disable DPMS" or eqivalent in a Power Management settings dialog is all that is required (assuming it does what it says on the tickbox and remembers the setting between logins. He certainly does.

Yes you should, but has nothing to do with Carlos's statement.

Now we get to the meat of your contention. Just off the top of my head, I can think of no one else who would prefer your condition, but you have every right to have your system the way *you* want it. The same, you have no right to impose your desires on everyone elso who (probably) does not want their system the way your want yours. It's linux and there is a way to do nearly anything, but that way may not be obvious to everyone. And there is really little need for it to be obvious to everyone if it will be *little* used, ie: your case. But, be sure to document your solution when you achieve it as there may sometime, somewhere, be someone else who desires similar conditions :^). -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+help@opensuse.org

xset dpms off should do what you want. Not persistently, though. AFAIR GUI tools to do this are available (power management setting). However, you have to remember that you have to disable both DPMS *and* screen saver.
