Re: [opensuse-xorg] dead i810 upstream problem?

Maybe because you are the last one who possesses this hardware? There is very little we can do to help you here. All our i810 hardware we owned has died meanwhile. You may open at ticket on bugs.freedesktop.org and pester Intel about this. Your mileage may vary though as Intel may not have this hardware available for bug verification either. I'm afraid that once you own hardware that's not mainstream any more you are pretty much on your own - and you are most likely the only one who still cares about i810. So why don't you investigate this yourself and develop a fix? I'd be happy to review this - sorry I won't be able to test it, though. Otherwise - since you verified that the driver is broken and I'm positive that nobody else (except you?) will care for it any more - I should be able to safely drop it from openSUSE.
there a more general failure on other gfxchips I just haven't run into yet? Is the 810 supposed to be running a different driver than intel post-13.1/1.14.x?
Sorry, I cannot answer this. It's too long since I've looked at this driver. Cheers, Egbert. -- Egbert Eich (Res. & Dev.) Pointless to open such a ticket for 2 reasons: 1-not an intel driver bug, but the thread on the subject died so long ago I forgot it even existed: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/intel-gfx/2014-April/043917.html 2-already fixed, just not in the ancient Factory kernel -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." The 845 has a different set of foibles from the older 810. I have 2 845s that between the two of them at least are running all openSUSE releases back to around 11.4, in addition to Factory, but neither are laptops, which I've seen some reports about unique trouble with (backlight control and/or 2nd display) that I'm not seeing on my single output desktops. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Maybe I am the last in possession who uses it with Factory, a proxy for non-testers who will one day upgrade from a no longer supported version for no reason other than security support expiration, expecting as in the past to still have after upgrading the functionality they had before, and with continuity of security patches for another release lifetime. People shouldn't need to add to landfills equipment that can continue to be useful in spite of advanced age, if it can practically be avoided, and the reason why I have Factory on an 810. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
