ATI 3D Rage Pro AGP 1X/2X working correctly?
Hello group - I have an 4-year-old Abit / Athlon 850 system with 256mg memory running SuSE 9.0 right out of the box. Works well enough, but I don't think I'm getting everything out of the video card (ATI 3D Rage Pro AGP 1X/2X) or Xfree86. Funny enough, I just put this card in because it's an upgrade to what I had before (an ATI Xpert 98), and it was free and it has 16 mg on the card and some 3D capability. But I still see trails when I move windows around, SaX2 says it doesn't have 3D capability and won't let me select any expert options (though I'm not sure what exactly they do). Here are my questions: can I assume that an out-of-box SuSE 9.0 with a "canned" kernel really see the video options available? Do I need to rebuild the kernel to make sure it supports the hardware I have? Or can I pull an RPM or two that will add functionality. Are there tweaks to Xfree or the ATI card driver I need to know about? Many thanks Reid
