[opensuse-xorg] Nvidia driver version 9639-0.1
Hello list, yesterday I installed the new driver version for Nvidia graphic cards over the zmd online update. It was the two rpm's x11-video-nvidia-1.0.9639-0.1.x86_64.rpm and nvidia-gfx-kmp-default-1.0.9639_2.6.18.8_0.3-0.1.x86_64.rpm. After switching back to runlevel 5 the X Server does not started with the error, that the nvidia module could not be loaded because it could not find the file nvidia.ko under /lib/modules/2.6.18.8-0.3-default/updates/. The file is under the corresponding folder - so I'm wondering why it could not be found. I tested it under two different computer. One 64 Bit and one 32 Bit. Under both there was the same error. Does anybody know why this error occurs or how to solve it? At the moment I'm switched back to the old driver version 9631-0.1 Thanks and Regards Michael -- GMX FreeMail: 1 GB Postfach, 5 E-Mail-Adressen, 10 Free SMS. it would be easier for you to download latest driver from http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html and build the driver with the included nvidia-installer. -- einen schönen Tag noch, & bitte kein TOFU (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOFU) DI Rainer Klier Abteilung IT - Entwicklung ECOLOG Logistiksysteme GmbH Bauernstraße 11, A-4600 Wels Tel. ++43/7242/66200 Fax ++43/7242/66200-200 mailto:kra@ecolog.at http://www.ecolog.at -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+help@opensuse.org

If it's easier to install the driver manually, I should stop working on providing packages for openSUSE. Try loading it manually: 'modprobe nvidia' - and check /var/log/messages for failure information. Which card do you have, is it still supported by the driver? Did you do a kernel update, and did you reboot? Does the installed kernel version and flavour match your running kernel? A 'depmod -a' might help as well, but the rpm package should have run that anyway. ups, i didn't want to insult you, or say that your packages are for nothing. maybe it seems easier to me to use the nvidia-installer because i am used to it. i upgrade the nvidia-driver whenever a new version is out. and therefor i am forced to use the nvidia-installer, because your packages are not made for every new version of the driver. maybe you should not stop working on providing packages for openSUSE but in opposite make new packages every time, nvidia releases a new driver.... ;-) -- einen schönen Tag noch, & bitte kein TOFU (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOFU) DI Rainer Klier Abteilung IT - Entwicklung ECOLOG Logistiksysteme GmbH Bauernstraße 11, A-4600 Wels Tel. ++43/7242/66200 Fax ++43/7242/66200-200 mailto:kra@ecolog.at http://www.ecolog.at -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+help@opensuse.org

Obviously this was a bad idea. :-( BTW, we're talking about Bug #285820. Best regards, Stefan Public Key available ------------------------------------------------------ Stefan Dirsch (Res. & Dev.)
