ATI-nonfree linux drivers / Texture bug is gone for older Radeon cards - ATI did a good Job (nearly completed)
Dear listmembers, to whom it might concern: Users of Radeon 9200 and (haven't tested yet, but assume will be the same result) Radeon 8500, (9250? 9100?) should upgrade to the latest 8.24.8 release of ATI-drivers. The texture displaying bug has vanished! May be verified by playing tux-cart or TORCS. All older drivers do not show the textures correctly. Remaining bug(s): on my big display modes are being written into xorg.conf that cannot be displayed. *** DO NOT TEST THE SETUP AFTER CONFIGURATION WITH SAX2. *** *** YOUR MONITOR MIGHT GET DAMAGED. *** Save configuration without test and reduce the "Modes" to: Section "Modes" Identifier "Modes[0]" EndSection Tested on SuSE 9.3 (yes folks, I still use it :-))) ). Will be identical for 10.0 and 10.1 IMHO. Dear listmembers, because I can hardly keep track of all those logins on all of those lists requesting address information to fill up the customer databases of whomever, I put my commentary here: ATI partly fixed the old bug because the driver does not crash any more (for me, at last) when I try to preview the configuration. The only bad thing it does is to write mode lines into xorg.conf that are out of the capabilities of my monitor (so, results may vary!). Take care Dieter Jurzitza ******
