[opensuse-xorg] openSUSE 12.3 nvidia driver for GT215 GTS 350
Hello, I'm installing the RC for 12.3 and I try to install the nvidia driver using the recommend steps described in https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA_drivers= , but no succeed. Apparently is about the check version for the repository, I supposed nvidia has to update. Using the installer downloaded directly from nvidia website, there is a issue with the kernel version. I need a light to make opensuse works with the nvidia driver. Without the nvidia driver at least in 12.2 the laptop freeze. thank you for you kindly help, appreciate any advice. -- Luis González @ GMAIL -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+owner@opensuse.org

The newer kernels have source packages in different locations. Larry Finger has provided instructions and patches to install nvidia drivers. Same issue with the kernel source.
What can I do?

Did you apply the patch? I am running 310.19, patched, with kernel 3.8.0-28-desktop. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, I did it. I read the readme, txt http://www.lwfinger.com/nvidia_patches/readme.txt and I follow the directions. I surf the web about this issue and I found similar answers related with the PATCHLEVEL and SUBLEVEL verification in conftest.sh for NVIDIA installer. I reviewed several times. In this moment my installation issue is related with conftest.h, when I run the nvidia-installer, the script looking for a $HEADERS/../.config file At least in my installations I did not found it.
then as root: cd /lib/modules/3.8.0-28-desktop/build/include ln -s generated/uapi/linux ./linux and try installing the patch "VIDIA*.run -a" file. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+owner@opensuse.org
