problems ATI express & medion monitor
Hi, First time on this list I hope I can get some help/ answers to thia problem. I've spent all day at a friends with a new install of suse 10.1 on a ASUS P4RD1-MX mobo with an integrated graphics card Radeon XPRESS 200 5A41 PCIE. The monitor is a Medion MD7475AB Its known from previous use that this monitor will do 1024x768 @75Hz. SAX2 produces a totally unreadable display resembling a carpet pattern. I've also checked this with another distro, Mandriva 2007, nice but full of some really bad bugs. that was the reason I moved to Suse from mMDV. the xorg.conf file from MDV2007 even though it produced a good display is a bit strange:- Section "Monitor" Identifier "monitor1" VendorName "Plug'n Play" ModelName "MD7475AB" HorizSync 30-63 VertRefresh 50-76 # TV fullscreen mode or DVD fullscreen output. # 768x576 @ 79 Hz, 50 kHz hsync ModeLine "768x576" 50.00 768 832 846 1000 576 590 595 630 # 768x576 @ 100 Hz, 61.6 kHz hsync ModeLine "768x576" 63.07 768 800 960 1024 576 578 590 616 EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "device1" VendorName "ATI Technologies Inc" BoardName "ATI Radeon" Driver "ati" Option "DPMS" EndSection XF86drake (MDV thing) says the resolution is 10254x768 @75 Hz. I'm confused here as from the xorg.log the ATI Radeon XPRESS 200 5A41 PCIE. is listed for the "radeon" driver. I have tried both ati and radeon drivers, I'm guessing these are the xorg drivers and not the proprietary ATI drivers as they are only up to xorg 6.8. The Suse xorg .conf lokks like this:- Section "Monitor" DisplaySize 300 230 HorizSync 30-63 Identifier "Monitor[0]" ModelName "MD7475AB" Option "DPMS" VendorName "MED" VertRefresh 43-76 UseModes "Modes[0]" EndSection Section "Modes" Identifier "Modes[0]" Modeline "1024x768" 80.71 1024 1080 1192 1360 768 769 772 802 Modeline "1024x768" 79.52 1024 1080 1192 1360 768 769 772 801 Modeline "1024x768" 78.43 1024 1080 1192 1360 768 769 772 801 Modeline "800x600" 48.18 800 840 920 1040 600 601 604 626 Modeline "800x600" 47.53 800 840 920 1040 600 601 604 626 Modeline "800x600" 46.87 800 840 920 1040 600 601 604 626 EndSection Section "Screen" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 15 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" EndSubSection As both MDV 2007 and Suse 10.1 both use xorg 6.9 I have problems understanding why one distro's version of xorg can work and not the other. I have tried using the same parameters as the MDV xorg.conf in the Suse xorg.conf. But no change, still an unusable display like a carpet pattern. I've also tried all combinations as a LCD & VESA display, all resolutions from 600x480 to 1400x. Can someone please help with this one. TIA Richard
Hi Richard Such issues should be tracked via Novell Bugzilla. Could you file a Bugzilla report, please? Thanks. Best regards, Stefan On Sun, Aug 06, 2006 at 01:32:58AM +0100, Richard Bown wrote:

OK Stefan But I'm not sure if its a bug, or if it is whether or not its a Suse bug or an ATI bug. Thanks Richard

We'll figure this out. But let's use Bugzilla for this. Thanks. Best regards, Stefan Public Key available ------------------------------------------------------ Stefan Dirsch (Res. & Dev.)
