I finally wised up and sold the card to a windows user and bought a GE Force FX5200 Nvidea card. used yast (you) for the update and Sax2 to turn on 3D all is well and working fine. | Mel | PS No more ATI Cards for me for Linux.. Problem is this installed in a laptop, so I have no choice!!! A couple of things I have found since last post. If The USB mouse is the listed at the end as the corepointer, the touchpad works but not the touching the pad to simulate a click. If the touchpad is listed first the usb mouse never gets activated. I reloaded the ati driver rpm. It says that a tailored kernel module for fglrx was not found and I have to go to /etc/X11/fglrx/build_modules and do ./make.sh and then make_install,sh: Neither of these works as I get a message about xfree86 drm and says that it works with X4.1.0 or higher and I need a kernel higher then 2.4.8.... I am running 2.6.5-15 When I run fglrxinfo it says that I'm running the mesa drivers.. Any | help would be appreciated I wonder where that spam header came from ??? oh well on to the next episode of getting the ATI to work correctly. I found a SUSE version of fglrx on the their ftp site. I DL'd it and followed the steps outlined. I had to do a --force, as rpm said the SUSE version was older. I got to the end of step 2, where it says to: KERNEL_SOURCE=/usr/src/linux make modules. SUSE came with 2.6.4 and I've since upgraded to 2.6.5-15.12-default. The kernel source and kernel are of the same issue. The first warning is that Module.symvers is missing, modules will have CONFIG_MODVERSIONS disabled. It compiles the first 4 .o's fine, but doesn't like firegl_public, returns incompatible pointers, then it goes on to fglrx.o Where the scipt bombs on line 1, scripts/modpost 'No such file..' then errors out with a 127 & 2. When I did make cloneconfg there were no errors. In /usr/src/linux/scripts there a modpost.c & modpost.h A couple of more questions: 1. Would it be better to run X11 6.7.0-2.1 then XFree86, if so how do you switch? 2. How do I get rid of the ATI driver? if I just remove w/ rpm then it deletes the XF86Config-4 and my system won't go into graphical.
