Start XDMCP-Session without Greeter-Login?
Hello!
I need some help with the following scenario:
1.) HOST-A: Suse Linux 9.0 with KDE installed (kdm running) and remote login via XDMCP enabled and allowed
2.) HOST-B: Client with Linux (XFree installed).
----
The "normal" procedure is (IMHO):
1.) Start XServer on HOST-B: "X -query ip-address-of-HOST-A" 2.) You get the Display from HOST-A showing the "KDM-Greeter" where you can type in your username and your passwd in order to log in at HOST-A
3.) After successful login your KDE-session on HOST-A is startet and you can work onto HOST-A. (KDE-DESKTOP)
---
What I want to do is this (Please don't ask why!!! ;-) ):
1.) Start XServer on HOST-B: "X -query ip-address-of-HOST-A" 2.) kdm on HOST-A does not bring up the kdm-greeter. A (my) "special" X-Application on HOST-B is startet (and does some authentication stuff and so on..) and shown at the display at HOST-A.
Is this possible?: (just) start an X-Application on HOST-B without (bypassing) the greeter and with a kind of "autologin"?
What do i have to do in order to make this work?
Thanks in advance,
Jochen
List, My Question: I have run XDMCP on Red Hat Linux in the past without any problems. I am now running SUSE Linux Standard Server 8 and have been struggling to run XDMXP successfully. I have used my old Red Hat 'How to' documents to set it up but that is clearly not working. Can anyone point me at a good documentation site. I am using cygwin32 on an Windows XP pc to connect. I am only using this inside my LAN so for now security is not a major concern as I am only using the server for testing. Can anyone advise or hook me up with some good documentation? I am quite willing to reload my server from scratch. My Specs: OS: SUSE Standard Server 8.0 Hardware: Compaq Proliant 5500 (1Gig RAM, 4 x Pentium II CPU's) Any help would be greatly appreciated, Jonathan Hughes Tech Support Specialist Goodyear South Africa |--------------------------------------------------------------------------| |The information in this e-mail contains confidential and / or proprietary | |information and is intended solely for the addressee.
