Hi list, Will there be any updates of X.org or SAX2 for SuSE Linux 8.2 ? SuSE Linux 8.2 is still suported by SuSE, and I can get updates for it. But only for kde and security related stuff, not for SAX2 or the X server. The X server for 8.2 is Xfree86, I would like to replace it with X.org. Why can't I get any updates for SAX2 or X.org for this version, altough it is still a suported version of SuSE ? Thanks in advance. Walter Kerkhofs

X.org was never included in SuSE 8.2, so I guess there will never be an official version for it. Are there any bugs in SaX2 that have to be fixed?

Download the sources for X.org and follow the description in the INSTALL file.

"Supported" doesn't mean that every new product will be released in a SuSE 8.2 version be SuSE. Usually even version updates of software included in SuSE 8.2 are not available through YOU, only bug fixes. Or do you have a maintenance contract with SuSE? Linux is still free software, you don't have to pay SuSE for using SuSE 8.2 or even 9.1. - -- Ciao, Oliver GPG Public Key available at http://www.keyserver.net Key fingerprint = CD75 B140 3EAB 859B A904 C4EC BE86 FAC5 8566 5CEF Current Linux uptime: 2 hours 38 minutes. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFBQ1NHvob6xYVmXO8RApkwAKCAMqRKh+wwizbWtfQLmsYZgcd4EgCgmnyk luVmO4g27cr0KMR7gDkfEzI= =1/50 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

The screen resolution is always changed when I boot the computer, it is too high for my monitor. And if I set it to the right resolution with SAX2, it gets changed back for some strange reason.

Ok, but I do not use YOU (yet) because I can not go on the internet in Linux, I go to the website of SuSE and download the updates one by one from there. As soon as I have my router I can go online with Linux and use YOU for my updates. No I have no maintenance contract with SuSE Thanks anyway Greetings Walter Kerkhofs
I am told to wait for 9.2 which will handle the change to x.org abandoning xfree for their license change. x.org is at this time considered beta and so is not likely to be an update. Perhaps next month? but thats just my guess. CWSIV On Fri, 10 Sep 2004 22:02:32 +0200 Herman Kerkhofs <autostart@planetinternet.be> writes:

Thanks Carl, But I have no real need for 9.2, I want to stay with 8.2 as long as possible. (Well as long as it is supported by SuSE) Did not know that it still is beta, I do hope they will make an update for 8.2 as soon it is stable. (Hope=wisch) thanks again Greetings Walter Kerkhofs
