[opensuse-xorg] OS12.2 and Dell M6300
Hi, i tried OS12,2 on a Dell M6300 laptop. It was an update from 11.x -> 12.1 -> 12-2 The problem is that the monitor is not detected properly. When i run hwinfo --monitor everything looks fine but xrandr -q shows only 800x600. I have some problems getting the system running from start. The first install showed a total mess only when i started the kernel with "nomodeset" i had an useable output. I am a bit confused because earlier version of OS worked fine. any hints ? re, wh -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+owner@opensuse.org

I could fix the problem by adding the nv driver to the xorg config. The funny thing is that the driver was loaded before but did not detect anything. No additional flags are necessary. re, wh -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+owner@opensuse.org

try to use the proprietary driver from nvidia. ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/12.2 http://www.nvidia.de/object/unix-de.html http://www.nvidia.de/object/linux-display-amd64-304.51-driver-de.html -- Rainer Klier Research & Development xyzmo Software GmbH, SIGNificant E-Signature Solutions A-4052 Ansfelden, Haiderstraße 23 Tel.: +43 7229 88060-0, E-Mail: rainer.klier@xyzmo.com

1. Sorry for the delay i was a bit busy the last days I did not try the nvidea driver. we try to support/use OSS when ever possible and there is no performance problem or so (currently) for use. What really confused me is why a driver that worked in older OpenSuse versions fine (and still does so far) need to be loaded twice. Especially when you not even need an additional option. And maybe this is a solution for other people also. re, wh -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-xorg+owner@opensuse.org
