Since upgrading to SuSE 9.3 , my X is totally broken.

Symptoms:

1. System won't boot into graphical login (KDM) 2. X System can be started using xinit, and I can manually start Gnome but some applications (e.g. Yast2 YOU or Mythfrontend / setup screens) will crash

Discussed here quite a few times in the last two or three months. A google list search will provide you with the proper procedure to solve this problem.
