Re: [suse-xfree86] VNC Viewer - Viewing a remote X-Windows desktop
You are quite right - I have SuSE 8 Standard Server and VNC comes pre-installed. I run the server and can connect from a PC client but I get another desktop - not the same one as the user of the Linux PC. In other words the user and myself are not seeing the same thiong. When I control the PC remotley I want the user to see the mouse moving and the WIndows opening etc. JH "Kristopher K. MS Windows Remote Desktop Protocol is similar in that it makes a new instance for you. You can run run a vnc viewer to connect to a vnc server on your linux box. That being the case, you would need to run a vnc server on your linux box. http://tightvnc.com/download.html though I know that SUSE 9.0 and 9.1, with KDE, came with a vnc server already. -----Original Message----- From: jonathan_hughes@goodyear.co.za To: suse-xfree86@lists.suse.com Date: Fri, 11 Jun 2004 07:39:59 +0200 Subject: [suse-xfree86] VNC Viewer - Viewing a remote X-Windows desktop List, I first used VNC Viewer under Windows and was impressed by its effectiveness for remote assistance, and its free. I like the fact that the user at the PC and myself can both view the same desktop - me remotley and the user at the computer. I have recentley used VNC Server and Viewer under Linux. Works fine but how do I view the remote desktop currentley used by the user at the PC? When I VNC into the Linux box I get to see the desktop - however it is a different (new?) desktop - not the one currenly used by the user at the Linux PC. Is it possible to replicate the functionality provided by default under WIndows where both users see the same desktop? Does the X Windows server support this? Thanks in advance..
