Ctrl-Alt-F1 from KDE on my ACER Aspire 1353LM makes the screen go completely blank. I'm able to blindly log in / off the text console and to go back to KDE with Alt-F7. Any idea on what to try to get a proper text console?
interrupt the boot command the same as you would to init 3 or xx and edit the vga=xxxxx entry to vga=normal or 'ask' or 'scan'. The system is apparently trying to boot with screen parameters that your monitor cannot use.
Patrick, thanks for your advices.
There was indeed a vga=xxx option in /boot/grud/menu.lst, I tried various settings normal to a few values given by ask, but unfortunately I wasn't able to go back to working console from X. I also tried apm=off in addition to my existing acpi=off but with no luck.
Then I used yast to change the driver to VESA - Vesa-BIOS Graphics and it worked just fine, X to text to X! Cool.
Do you know where I should file a problem report for the VIA VT 7205 driver, to support@suse.com, http://suse.de/feedback or somewhere else?
Yep these are the places; but you should also post your solution here by replying to this msg and adding "[SOLVED]" at the end of the subject line PeterB -- -- Proud to use SuSE Linux, since 5.2 Loving using SuSE Linux 8.2 MyBlog http://vancampen.org/blog/ Currently listening to Joseph Campbell http://www.jcf.org/ Free D/Ls after free registration --
