I have some good news:
The installation was based on OS11.3 that came free with easylinux, i guess the problems arose because they used some old sources.
I don't think so.
A test with OS11.3 livecd made the problems disappear.
KMS is disabled (except for Intel of course) on the openSUSE 11.3 LiveCD. That's likely the reason why it works with the LiveCD. And another reason to give 'nomodeset' a try.
Best regards, Stefan

Hi List, since updating from OS 11.2 to 11.3 i have trouble with X11 on a Latitude D600. The results are very confusing. the most obvious point i found is: [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id
Are there know issuse with ATI RV250 ? I guess it would make sense to give radeon/UMS a try, i.e. use 'nomodeset' as also mentioned in our release notes.
