Sounds like what has happen to me. I have an nvidia GeForce 8600 GT. I'm using the nvidia drivers from the nvidia repo as well as a MacBookPro with an ATI X1600 using radeonhd.
Have you tried downgrading the xorg-x11-driver-video and xorg-x11-driver- video-radeonhd to the RPMs in the openSUSE 11.1 OSS repo? That's what I did on my MacBookPro and it works. These are the RPMs I have to downgrade:
xorg-x11-server xorg-x11-driver-input xorg-x11-driver-video xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd
Those 4 rpms come from the OSS repo.
