1) Its still possible to use Virtual Text consoles over the kb/mouse/monitor switch. 2) virtual console 7 is just blank over VGA cable (which should the xdm login)
It seems that the radeon chip does not detect the VGA monitor correctly. You can try Option "MonitorLayout" "CRT" in the driver section. If you want to be able to use both DVI and VGA, try Option "MonitorLayout" "CRT,TMDS" and all according dual layout options (MergedFB, CRT2Position, CRT2HSync, CRT2VRefresh, MetaModes) as shown in the radeon manual page.
b) If i boot and the LCD is connected over the DVI Port everything is fine.
It seems that the box is putting through DDC signals from the DVI port, but not from the VGA port, or it doesn't put through any signals and the card defaults to DVI.
