Because of bad AGP implementation at several SiS chipsets. AFAIK this is fixed at sis-agp modul of kernel 2.6.6. At least there are new parameters to enable a different timeout behaviour.
BTW: I've the same problem and I'm waiting for SuSE rpms of kernel 2.6.6.
