and i also noticed that compiz/xgl didn't start/work. i have it enabled, but when installed 7.1 system behaeved like it is not installed/switched on.
Hmm. I would need more details here to investigate this issue. But since you're already back to 6.9 ... :-(
i will try again tommorow.... does xgl/compiz work with 7.1 on your computer?
Honestly I didn't test it yet. Still need to figure out how to setup my KDE desktop to use Xgl/compiz.
after returning to 6.9 (which was not easy!), it worked again.
Indeed this is annoying. I've added ' Option "RenderAccel" "no" ' to
does that cost performance?
As long as you don't have Composite extensions enabled no. See the NVIDIA driver README for details.
isn't xgl/compiz a "Composite extension"?
AFAIK Xgl itself provides the Composite extension. Therefore I don't think Xgl/compiz would make use of the NVIDIA Render acceleration. But I might be completely wrong. Matthias probably knows better and might give us some more details, when he's back next week.
i think we need a "suse 10.1 upgrading from 6.9 to 7.1 howto" and a "switching back to 6.9 if something fails howto".....
Yes, this would be something for openSUSE. You need to remove
/usr/lib/X11 /usr/include/X11
i had to find out this the hard way........ some minutes ago ;-)
the hardest issue was, that i had to do all in text-mode coz after some while even the open-source "nv" driver didn't work, which worked after installation of 7.1... strange!
Well, nv/nvidia driver don't like each other. :-(
i need some script or similar to switch quickly from 6.9 to 7.1 and vice versa. so i can try/test, and go back quickly if somethink doesn't work. because i also have to do some work here with my computer ...... ;-)
It's a pity, that it isn't usable for you yet, but just to give you an idea for such scripts. Uninstall 7.1: - rpm -e $(rpm -qa|grep xorg-x11) --nodeps - rmdir /usr/lib/X11 /usr/include/X11 - let YaST resolve the package dependancies to install again 6.9 X.Org packages Install 7.1: - rpm -Uhv xorg-x11*.rpm Best regards, Stefan Public Key available ------------------------------------------------------ Stefan Dirsch (Res. & Dev.)
