Hmm. I would need more details here to investigate this issue. But since you're already back to 6.9 ... :-(
i will try again tommorow.... does xgl/compiz work with 7.1 on your computer?
Honestly I didn't test it yet. Still need to figure out how to setup my KDE desktop to use Xgl/compiz.
Finally I've running it now. I ended up with: echo "fixed -misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-c-60-iso8859-1" > /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/fonts.alias cp /usr/share/fonts/misc/cursor.pcf.gz /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc cp /usr/share/fonts/misc/cursor.pcf.gz/6x13-ISO8859-1.pcf.gz /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc mkfontdir /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc to get Xgl started. But the keyboard e.g. is still broken (setxkbmap doesn't work). I wouldn't recommend to switch to X.Org 7 now if you rely on Xgl/compiz.
