thats a pity, because the Compiz-Quinn-packages are the best, most stable, fastest and feature-richest versions of compiz/xgl.
Not to my experience. Yes, they include some experimental features. No, they are not really faster (how could that be, given that compiz almost needs no user space time at all). No, they are less stable. Stability is the most important issue for us.
when i began using 10.1 i setup some installation-sources which i found in http://repos.opensuse.org/ i setup everything which seemed usefull for me. one of them was http://repos.opensuse.org/Compiz-Quinn/ these days the versions of xgl/compiz (from 10.1 and factory) i used didn't work very well. in fact they didn't work at all on my intel-mainboard-chipset-graphics-card i855g. when i installed the versions found in http://repos.opensuse.org/ xgl/compiz began to life/work! so i sticked to them and updated them as new versions came out. and new versions come out on a regular basis. and some new features are really very usefull: 1. the new theme-engine, where the window-decorations can be tweaked 2. the built-in window-decorator, which is easier to control and faster-starting than the extra program gnome-window-decorator (which i had to start extra as a kde-user) 3. the control-icon on the desktop, from where you can configure, configure themes, restart and stop compiz. 4. some nice new plugins and effects. and since i use the Compiz-Quinn-packages compiz never froze/crashed. so from my point of view as a user, there are no better, more usefull versions out there of xgl/compiz then the versions found at http://repos.opensuse.org/Compiz-Quinn/.
maybe we should tell cyberorg about this issue?
Who is cyberorg?
a guy who communicates with compiz-users on the forum http://www.compiz.net/topic-119-1.html i really don't know if he is the developer behind Compiz-Quinn-packages, but he has something to do with the release of the Compiz-Quinn-packages. -- einen schönen Tag noch DI Rainer Klier Abteilung IT - Entwicklung ECOLOG Logistiksysteme GmbH Bauernstraße 11, A-4600 Wels Tel. ++43/7242/66200 Fax ++43/7242/66200-200 mailto:kra@ecolog.at http://www.ecolog.at
