[opensuse-xfce] Re: [opensuse-factory] automounting USB devices with xfce on 12.3
* Karl Eichwalder <ke@suse.de> [2013-06-10 17:25]:
I usually update my system with the traditional yast method. Now on 12.3, xfce no longer automounts devices in my USB card-reader. I think it used to work on 12.2, and it definitely work on a 12.3 installation from scratch.
How can I debug this on my updated 12.3 system? Do others suffer from the same? If yse, I'd create a bug.
Works fine for me. First, check your settings in "Removable Drives and Media" in the Settings Manager, then see if there is any output from thunar-volman in .xsession-errors. Please also post the output produced by the following commands when you insert the card: gvfs-mount --monitor --detail udisks --monitor-detail as root: udevadm monitor --udev --property In addition, please post the output of ck-list-sessions. Since this doesn't concern Factory we should probably discuss any further details on opensuse-xfce@. -- Guido Berhoerster -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-xfce+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-xfce+owner@opensuse.org

I just remembered me that I switch to Nautilus last time. But now at least for testing, I use thunar.

Looks good, automounting is activated, and no output in .xsession-errors.
Please also post the output produced by the following commands when you insert the card:
gvfs-mount --monitor --detail udisks --monitor-detail
Command does not exist; I used "udisksctl monitor ...".
as root: udevadm monitor --udev --property
All three command without any output.
In addition, please post the output of ck-list-sessions.

OK, so it looks like the problem is on the udev/kernel level if the card insertion is not detected here, unfortunately that's outside my area of expertise :( You might want to check with the users or better the kernel list on how to debug this. Maybe dmesg gives some hints? -- Guido Berhoerster -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-xfce+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-xfce+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for all your help! Stupid me, yes, it looks like a hardware issue. The front panel USB plugs seem to be broken. Those on the back work. But initially it takes some time until they get detected (~ 20 seconds). -- Karl Eichwalder SUSE LINUX Products GmbH R&D / Documentation Maxfeldstraße 5 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-xfce+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-xfce+owner@opensuse.org
