Re: [opensuse-xfce] How to make suggestions or add packages to xfce pattern?
Dear Eion, Thank you, I appreciate your feedback on this. I’m also a long time Xfce user although not in openSUSE. I only recently made the switch and made small contributions to it so I'm still fairly new to how things are decided. Please allow me to clarify my point of view:
I would leave Evince in the selection I would leave Shotwell in the selection I would leave Totem in the selection These work well at present and are also available on other systems.
I am not denying that they work well however I made the suggestions because since the introduction of Gnome Client Side Decoration aka CSD, these apps no longer blend into Xfce look and feel. As a result the X-Apps I listed were born, which are in fact forks of GNOME apps, targeting Xfce, Mate and Cinnamon (with the exception of Parole, which is a native Xfce app). Now although I may understand the resistance in changing things that just work, l would still consider these apps because they are in fact available on other systems and do work as well as the originals. Plus all of them are already in the openSUSE distribution.
I would leave Leafpad in the selection
I simply think Mousepad should be default as it is in any other main Xfce system. I do believe that what I suggested could make the current Xfce experience better, especially for newbies coming from other distros. I hope what I said makes sense and that it's worth some thinking, regardless of things changing or staying the as they are. Hello Everyone, I wanted to ask what is the best way to make suggestions to the xfce pattern? Should I just branch it and submit via obs like any other package?
I would like to suggest all or any of the following changes if possible: - add menulibre - replace leafpad with mousepad (mousepad is the default text editor for xfce) - replace evince with xreader (it's a fork of evince but with menubar instead of csd thus integrates better in xfce aesthetics) - replace shotwell with pix (fork of gthumb) - replace file-roller with engrampa (fork of file-roller with menubar) - replace totem with parole (parole is an xfce app)
Some of the changes are maybe just for aesthetic reasons to make the default openSUSE Xfce desktop look more unified. Please let me know what you think as I don't know the reason and history of the current software selection. Best regards, Maurizio
