[opensuse-xfce] How to make suggestions or add packages to xfce pattern?

Hello Everyone, I wanted to ask what is the best way to make suggestions to the xfce pattern? Should I just branch it and submit via obs like any other package? I would like to suggest all or any of the following changes if possible: - add menulibre - replace leafpad with mousepad (mousepad is the default text editor for xfce) - replace evince with xreader (it's a fork of evince but with menubar instead of csd thus integrates better in xfce aesthetics) - replace shotwell with pix (fork of gthumb) - replace file-roller with engrampa (fork of file-roller with menubar) - replace totem with parole (parole is an xfce app) Some of the changes are maybe just for aesthetic reasons to make the default openSUSE Xfce desktop look more unified. Please let me know what you think as I don't know the reason and history of the current software selection. I think so.

This is OK with me.

I think this is a good idea. The history of the software selection is "I took over what Guido Berhoerster left behind and try to not break anthing by avoiding touching things as far as possible" :-) Additionally, I do run my customized config and seldom do fresh installs for testing, so I do never see how it really looks and feels :-) Maybe this is even worth discussing on openSUSE-factory, because I don't know how much readers opensuse-xfce has. I have only subscribed myself end of last year :-) best regards, -- Stefan Seyfried "For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for nature cannot be fooled." -- Richard Feynman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-xfce+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-xfce+owner@opensuse.org

Hello Stefan, Thank you for your answer.
The history of the software selection is "I took over what Guido Berhoerster left behind and try to not break anthing by avoiding touching things as far as possible" :-)
I also don't wanna break anything of course :P. I don't think changing the programs will do so, as long as apps keep being maintained as it's currently the case. However, if the pattern is changed, users relying on the pattern and recommended packages will eventually get the new software installed with `zypper dup`. This has to be taken into account and maybe done gradually rather than all at once, as it may annoy somebody. Therefore your suggestion to bring this discussion to Factory could be a good idea. I also filed a Bugzilla request because I was suggested to do so on Discord: https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1112889 I don't know how useful this report is as the pattern is maintained in X11:xfce. Thus I believe it's up to you and the other maintainers to make the call on its changes. What would be the best way I can I link this thread to the Factory mailing list? I would prefer "xarchiver". https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/X11%3Axfce/xarchiver -- WBR Kyrill

I would prefer "xarchiver". As it's not currency in Factory I'm afraid this is not an option. I don't know if the maintainer of the Xarchiver in X11:xfce plans a Factory submission. The development of Xarchiver was pretty much dead for a long time and only recently brought back to life.
Btw now there is a thread in the Factory ML too: https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2018-10/msg00271.html Maurizio Galli (MauG) On Mon, Oct 29, 2018 at 1:17 AM Kyrill Detinov <lazy.kent@opensuse.org> wrote:
