a) login screen (xdm)
Yes, xdm is pretty ugly by default. I'm trying to hack SLIM to integrate better with openSUSE and XFCE, but PAM support is pretty broken and there are other issues. I'm considering theming XDM but I think this would not be acceptable. What about GDM (it is not depending on GNOME much)?
Anyone can use GDM instead, but it starts to depend on gnome more and more.
d) root password If an application says it should be run as root I except a dialogue asking for it, not just a message about it.
Like I have written in previous mail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=393955 -- Best Regards / S pozdravom, Pavol RUSNAK SUSE LINUX, s.r.o Package Maintainer Lihovarska 1060/12 PGP 0xA6917144 19000 Praha 9, CR prusnak[at]suse.cz http://www.suse.cz -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-xfce+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-xfce+help@opensuse.org

Anyone can use GDM instead, but it starts to depend on gnome more and more. Two extreme ways:
- be so gnomish as possible because it's "nicer": as Xubuntu do (file roller instead of squeeze...).
- no GNOME, because it is not good in Xfce: as using XDM instead of GDM.
BTW sending dependencies for gdm package (see no gnome there, seems more like gtk for me). -- Miro "churchyard" Hrončok JID: churchyard@njs.netlab.cz -- This message contains no viruses, because I do not use Microsoft(R) Windows(R).

I do not prefer this option.

We should find a good trade-off between the two.
