That should be the best case.

The only problem I would have with that is that there is no explanation given as to why all of a sudden users are being sent to validate their email. I know, the page is pretty self-explanatory, but you know what happens when you assume anything out of the end user ;)

The only problem can be with the forums.o.o users. Do they validate email when subscribe to forums, or they use some equally efficient method to prevent creation of fake accounts?

Not currently, but soon. I am actually working with the forum admin, and he has a very similar bug open on the openSUSE forums. We are test driving the email validation solution on the wiki, and assuming it works, we will be doing the same thing on the forums.
