[opensuse-wiki] Template "Infobox Software" is garbled in Internet Explorer
Using Firefox or Konqueror, it looks good, but in Internet Explorer the image keeps position and it is right aligned, but frame elements are shifted left, closer to the TOC, each in its own position so the frame looks like couple of disjoint lines and corners. Besides that, template does not show versions, only {{{VersionXYZ}}}. See in Internet Explorer: http://en.opensuse.org/Amarok Does anyone check his web design in other major browsers? Do we create designs that will work for browsers used in Linux alone? I know that I didn't check before this case, but it seems that is bad idea. The browser market is still largely Internet Explorer turf, and having template like Infobox Software, that should be on every software description page, broken, is guarantee that a lot of the visitors will laugh, and completely understand claims that Linux is designed by bunch of amateurs. -- Regards Rajko, -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org

For those who don't have IE readily available, here's a link to a screenshot from IE 8 in Windows 7: http://www.twitpic.com/13acnm -- Kevin "Yeaux" Dupuy Campaign for Liberty West Baton Rouge Coordinator http://www.twitter.com/KevinYeaux -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org

Thanks! Much appreciated from a non-IE user :-) Rajko, may you please forward this to Robert Lihm? IMO he's in charge here. Thanks, R

Robert and Frank are in charge of wiki CSS, but this is a created by wiki users and that is the reason to ask here to check results before any custom style is used in production. We use custom styles mostly in templates. The comment by CBoltz that we should collect custom styles, move them to wiki CSS, and then use as classes seems to be right on the spot. That way we can thoroughly test style before it is used, and discourage experiments that are not clearly marked as such. This will create more rules, need for people that can test layout, explanations, need for and writing help files, lists with styles, example usage, coordination with Robert and Frank. Robert, Frank? For now we should be very careful with fancy styles. In Internet explorer 8, frame and picture are just shifted as you can see in Kevin's snapshot. In IE7 frame is in pieces, without gray lines, just corners are gray, and image does not exist. There is a shot. http://picpaste.com/IMG_3454.JPG On another computer picture is present, but frame is not in a better shape. -- Regards Rajko, -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org

I see, thanks for the clarification. CBoltz suggestion also sounds good to me (if Frank/Robert are aligned with this).

+1, for the reason you outlined earlier.

While I personally don't care about IE at all (happy for that), I absolutely second what you said in regard of customer perception .. "The browser market is still largely Internet Explorer turf, and having template like Infobox Software, that should be on every software description page, broken, is guarantee that a lot of the visitors will laugh, and completely understand claims that Linux is designed by bunch of amateurs." .. we need to take care of this. Thus, thanks to bring this to public attention! Best, R
