[opensuse-wiki] article to delete
This article http://en.opensuse.org/Feature_Wishlist is marked as "This article will not be transferred to the new wiki instance! [thinking out loud] if it is to be deleted, shouldn't it be _after_ the other articles have been transferred to wiki.o.o ?? hmmmmm...i wonder how many other articles are out there which link to Feature_Wishlist and if their reviewer will know to change all instances of Feature_Wishlist to https://features.opensuse.org/ instead? hmmmm...perhaps some administrator could today (even) alias http://en.opensuse.org/Feature_Wishlist to land on https://features.opensuse.org/ hmmmmm...is there, or should there be, a transition plan of how to do that because with the new capitalization rules, there are MANY many address changes required...so, articles reviewed today pointing to (for example) http://en.opensuse.org/Optimal_Use_of_MS_TrueType_Core_Fonts_for_a_KDE_Deskt... will have to be changed when the new link is http://wikin.opensuse.org/Optimal_use_of_MS_TrueType_core_fonts_for_a_KDE_de... how will the team manage this? dd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org

Current plan is that after transfer is completed en.opensuse.org (en.o.o) and wiki.opensuse.org (wiki.o.o) will be switched, so that old content is still available if we missed something and article maintainer wants to rescue his article. How switch will happen technically is up to the web admins.
hmmmmm...i wonder how many other articles are out there which link to Feature_Wishlist and if their reviewer will know to change all instances of Feature_Wishlist to https://features.opensuse.org/ instead?
The reason to keep redirect pages with old title is that web doesn't like URL changes, and wiki articles are not exemption to that rule. Changing the links without leaving redirects creates dead links on a web page that linked our articles which is not very likely to be greeted by that site web admin as it makes his site look bad. That is the reason that a move to the new name (link Move above the title) creates redirect instead to remove old page completely. Links to new pages should be removed only in special cases.
hmmmm...perhaps some administrator could today (even) alias http://en.opensuse.org/Feature_Wishlist to land on https://features.opensuse.org/
So far I know that should be done on the Apache web server. MediaWiki software can't redirect to remote site. That is probably design decision to prevent people misusing it to hijack wiki articles as redirects to advertising sites.

how will the team manage this?
After your comments I see that this probably means taking all redirects with articles, which is not small task; as you noted that will mean almost doubling number that has to be transferred, so we should probably think again what to do.
