[opensuse-wiki] search engines, indexes and sdb
I wonder if there is not a problem with the wiki search. Trying to manage the infos about wifi/wlan, I notes that searching for "wifi" or "wlan" doesn't return most of the relevant pages one can find through categories this is not only true for new pages (what can be only a delay problem), but also for older ones. Specially it seems than SDB pages are nearly not indexed, neither by google. For example I noted at least three nearly identical pages about ndiswrapper, but none was so easy to find is this a general problem? no robot.txt forgotten somewhere??? jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.ladepeche.fr/article/2007/10/27/127022-Claire-Dodin-une-Toulousai... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org

Any specific pages you are missing? Searching for "wlan" returns more than 60 hits.

I cannot confirm this either. Try searching for some SDB articles on en.opensuse.org - it works for me. Searching for ***"SDB:" site:en.opensuse.org*** on Google returns almost 600 SDB articles (plus a bunch of other pages) - I think none are missing.

?? http://en.opensuse.org/Special:Search?search=ndiswrapper&fulltext.x=35&fulltext.y=5&fulltext=Search returns all of them under "Article title matches". -- Regards Frank Frank Sundermeyer, Technical Writer, Documentation SUSE Linux Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, D-90409 Nuernberg Tel: +49-911-74053-0, Fax: +49-911-7417755; http://www.opensuse.org/ SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Reality is always controlled by the people who are most insane (Dogbert) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org

no problem

I have often problems, but I can't describe them completely. sometime I find, most of the time I don't (and I find with google, generally) I understand this don't help you :-(( Of course (:-(, I don't remember exactly what was my problem then. However, lurking about the wifi problem (just as an example) and comparing the wiki search and google site search on openSUSE.org, I noticed that it seems than the word "wifi" was nearly not present on the english wiki, but google find it often on the french or spanish one. it could be then interesting, if possible, to add an option (for example on the search result page) to search the entire wiki. the word "wifi" looked english for me, but may not be so current in english and this can arise for many words, users being often not english natives. jdd --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org
