It has been awfully quiet in the discussion about the new layout. I have added some stuff to http://en.opensuse.org/Frontpage_redesign I know there must be more links around this discussion, so please let your opinion known, even if it is that you like it the way it is. Otherwise it is just an individual request that won't get a followup. houghi -- Nutze die Zeit. Sie ist das Kostbarste, was wir haben, denn es ist unwiederbringliche Lebenszeit. It is quiet, because many people don't know what to do next. I'm among them. For instance I would like little bit more graphic. Simple SUSE chameleon is not really visually appealing graphic. The one on default background screen in SUSE 10 is much better for this purpose, but I'm not sure can it be used without Novell permission. In line with this is Pflodo template that will allow graphic to be used as link, see http://en.opensuse.org/Wiki_Team . Second problem that I can see is space for work on proposal. One page is enough to post links to other pages with complete solution, but each proposal should have it's own page, with links to existing pages, just like real main page, and should be editable. Later I'll put some idea on wiki. Third problem I mentioned in one earlier posting is voting. We need place where to say yes or no for different things that we have more than one solution and affects all of us. In some cases it should be necessary to allow voting without logging in. Give anonymous user that look at the web page that should serve them right to say what they think about functionality, graphic layout, missing features, and than build upon feedback. I bet this will boost our confidence that we do right thing. Why editing wiki is not open can be understood, but completely isolating wiki from user opinions is bad. I can see that wiki pages are guesswork, made from experienced Linux user prospective, what would be good for new users. Why not let guest user to say what they would like to see. I'm now picking newsgroups questions to see what would be good. -- Regards, Rajko.

The put that on that page. I have not placed a link to a page, just to some older discussions.

Then link to it with an explanation that you lke that one better. Even saying it here should already be good, as it will make people look. Don't worry about any legal stuff. You are not a lawer. Just tell what you like and what not and let others wory about it. :-)

You can put it on your own homepage or on your own site or just an explanation. Whatever makes you feel comfortable.
Third problem I mentioned in one earlier posting is voting. Yes, but I hope that does not stop the discussion.

You are now a guest user. (As is everybody else. ;-)

Looking forward to it. I understand the hesitation and I hope it does not stop people to participate and still let them tell what they think and want. Naturally it must be clear that there won't ever be a consensus, as everybody has different preferences and ideas. houghi -- Nutze die Zeit. I set the link from http://en.opensuse.org/Frontpage_redesign to List_of_Proposal_Pages that should serve as index of frontpage design proposals. The idea is that one can make portal page, main page or whatever the name would be, and list on index page. In this way it is possible to make full functional frontpage design. Later on, most likable designs can be linked from main page and let outside visitors to choose. After some period (6 months or longer) the one that is the most visited can be used as frontpage. -- Regards, Rajko.

sub-pages are ideal for this. go to the porposal page and create your one like this [[Frontpage_redesign/Rajko proposal]] or simply, in the Frontpage_redesign page create the link [[/Rajko proposal]] in this manner * when in your page, the main page (Frontpage_redesign) is automatically linked by the wiki, and in the wiki abstract it is listed as Frontpage_redesign/Rajko proposal, making clear the two pages are related jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos

Thanks Jean, Yes, in this case it would be fine to use subpages, but I still have to learn more about mediawiki design and proper way to use it. For now I already made index page linked to Frontpage_redesign. -- Regards, Rajko.

houghi several things on this subject.
* I changed in an nearly invisible way the main french page (fr.opensuse.org) just making the three variable rigth parts three inserted secondary pages (http://fr.opensuse.org/Bienvenue_sur_openSUSE.org/nouvelles and so), this is more convenient to edit the news, but don't really change anything * we lack a page "_why_ changing for SUSE Linux, and how begin. I just (ten minute ago) receive a lettre from a windows user asking why he should change. This is usually addressed by "linux advocacy HOWTO", but not really by our "migrate from windows" page, very technical (and usefull) * we need also to better organise the wiki. I met this requirement trying to build a site map. I'm exploring sub-categories and sub-pages mediawiki feature. The latter for long articles, the first for search by subject. http://fr.opensuse.org/Les_cat%C3%A9gories_principales http://fr.opensuse.org/Les_pages_principales sub-categories don't involve any modification in the present work (apart writing categories in the page), so it's easy all this don't seems first page related, but if the main page must be anything else than pure artwork, it must reflect the underlying of the wiki, so the latter must be better defined first :-) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos
